Event: Golf Tournament on Ice

Purpose: Create a winter community celebration for area residents and those of surrounding communities. The event will enhance WBL community spirit and also raise awareness of the problem of hunger and poverty and encourage all citizens to take an active part in eliminating this problem. Proceeds will benefit the WBL Food Shelf. Through 2017 the BEARly Open has contributed over $136,000 to the WBL Area Emergency Food Shelves; which has enabled the food shelf to purchase over $1,088,000 in food product!

Name of Event: ‘BEAR’ly Open www.bearlyopen.org

Date: Saturday, February 3, 2018, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Community Dance: Friday, February 2, 8pm to midnight at White Bear Country Inn

Summary: This is a fun community focused event that will take place in early February on a Saturday from 11am to 4pm. Two 9-hole courses will be designed and laid out on the ice on White Bear Lake. Participants sign up for the event and pay a registration fee just as they would for a summertime golf event. The fee is $35 for adults and $20 for students. Early Bird fee (before Jan. 1) is $30 for adults and $15 for students.
The Community Dance is held Friday night, February 2, at 8pm at the White bear Country Inn. The music this year is provided by popular local band Wild Cat Combo.

Hole sponsorships are being solicited from the business community and any private individuals who are interested. We also solicit major sponsors, such as: event sponsor; course sponsors; hospitality tent sponsors; warming tent sponsors; entertainment sponsors; etc.

There will be a hospitality tent for warming and where activities will take place, such as registration, photo opportunities, and community and winter carnival activities.

Participants are encouraged to bring along their own refreshments, dress in costumes, etc. You should plan to dress for the weather. You don’t need to be a golfer to participate. We play with tennis balls and golfers use golf clubs, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, or anything else that can propel a tennis ball.

This is an official Winter Carnival event, thereby leveraging their publicity infrastructure.

The goal is to make this an annual community celebration that will promote the WBL community and fund the WBL Emergency Food Shelf. To date we have raised $136,000. Due to the purchasing power of cash (8 times), this has allowed the Food Shelf to purchase $1,088,000.
